Basic Spa Winterizing
By QCA Spas
These are basic winterizing instructions. QCA Spas, Inc. advises that alldetailed questions should be directed to your local spa professional.
- Turn power to the spa OFF.
- Drain the spa. After the spa is completely drained, loosen the unions on the water pump.
- With a wet vac, or similar item, use the suck or blow feature to remove air through the discharge. This eliminates all the water out of the tub.
- Take the suction off of the pump and blow air through it also.
- If your spa has a multiple pump(s) repeat steps 2 - 4.
- Crack the heater union and drain the heater.
- Reconnect the heater and the pump union.
- Wet vac the interior of the spa.
- If your spa is equipped with an air blower and air injectors. Unplug the #1 water pump and turn the power on. Push the blower button on the control pad and let the blower run for 15-20 seconds to blow the water out of the air lines.
- For spas with an air blower and drilled air holes. These spas will have drilled air holes with an air channel running beneath the shell. Unplug the #1 water pump and turn the power on. Push the blower button on the control pad and let the blower run for 15-20 seconds to blow the water out of the air channel and wet vac the interior of the spa. At that time add 1-2 gallons RV antifreeze, depending on the size of the spa, to the air holes in the spa to fill the channel. There should be a small amount of antifreeze remaining on the surface of the holes.
- Turn the power off and then plug-in the pump and blowers and tighten all unions.
- Remove the filter and clean it using a filter soak. Can be stored in the spa for the winter.
- Cover the spa with the hard cover and a tarp. No water, snow or ice should get into the spa or under the cabinet into the pumps.
*REMEMBER*
CLEAN ALL SNOW OFF OF THE SPA. THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW COULD CAUSE THE HARD COVER TO COLLAPSE!
